Chamomile; Matricaria Chamomilla, is an amazing flowering plant that has numerous uses. It is most popularly known for its soothing effects as a sleep aid.
It's anti-inflammatory properties are what makes it such a great remedy for tired and puffy eyes (it may also be used to cleanse the eyes). However, it could be used for any other inflammatory condition as well.
Chamomile is a natural relaxant, an anti-spasmodic, and has antibacterial properties. If one is suffering from a bladder infection or UTI, a chamomile bath is wonderfully effective. Simply fill a muslin bag with dried flowers (or use tea bags), and steep in a hot bath, squeezing the bag to release the healing essence. The anti-bacterial properties of this lovely plant further aid in the recovery of the UTI, while relaxing and replenishing the body.
Scrub the whole body with the muslin bag and benefit from Chamomile's rejuvenating and conditioning effects on the skin, as well. It also helps to assist in the release of toxins whether one is performing a body cleanse, or not.
The pure essential oil of Chamomile is also a great cleansing option for the bath. Just add 10-15 drops to a hot bath and bask in the goodness of this sweet flower.
Chamomile's delicate scent and mild taste make it a favorite for many, even children. However, if an allergy to the ragweed family is present, please abstain.
Chamomile is also a digestive. One would benefit from a nice cup of tea after a meal to further aid the body in its digestion process. It is a most valued flower, and in my opinion should always be in stock in the kitchen cupboard.
