The exquisite flowers are a treat for the eyes, and the palate. The leaves resemble miniature lily pads. The whole plant may be consumed, and has a slightly peppery flavor. The buds may be pickled for a spicy, caper alternative.
I love the flavor of nasturtiums, and enjoy putting them in salads. They also make a lovely cake topper. Not only are they pretty and tasty, but they are nutritious and medicinal, as well.
"Nasturtium contain vitamin(s) C, B1, B2, and B3. They also contain iron, calcium, phosphorus and manganese. The oils of the plant contain glucosinolates, carotenoids and flavionoids. All of these compounds have been shown to protect against carcinogenic agents..." ~hubpage.com
The exquisite flowers come in a variety of colors, ranging anywhere from crimson and salmon to buttercup yellow.

They also make beautiful cut flowers! In addition to its striking blossoms and nutritional benefits, nasturtium is extremely easy to cultivate by seed. The seeds are large and never wash away, and they always bloom. They are a mainstay in my garden for their beauty and flavor.
