Natryl Instincts: Ginger Root

Ginger is more than just a tasteful addition to desserts and Asian fare. In its raw state, ginger is a power house of nutrients and immunity enhancers.
Most commonly known for its ability to calm nausea and motion sickness, ginger is now being noted as a treatment for ovarian cancer, and a  preventative for colon cancer.
"Gingerols, the main active components in ginger and the ones responsible for its distinctive flavor, may also inhibit the growth of human colorectal cancer cells, suggests research presented at the Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research, a major meeting of cancer experts that took place in Phoenix, AZ, October 26-30, 2003." ~www.whfoods.com
"Lab experiments presented at the 97th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer, by Dr Rebecca Lui and her colleagues from the University of Michigan, showed that gingerols, the active phytonutrients in ginger, kill ovarian cancer cells by inducing apoptosis (programmed cell death) and autophagocytosis (self-digestion)." ~www.whfoods.com
Ginger is filled with antioxidants, and is a powerful antimmflamatory. It safeguards the immune system,  and eases the stomach, pain, heart burn, and morning sickness.
This amazing root is not native to this region, however, it is available all year long at your local health or grocery store.
To get your ginger fix, try it in a fresh juice. Apple, carrot, lemon, and ginger is a delicious mix. Always choose organic, when possible.
If feeling nauseous, a quick ginger ale is a perfect solution:
  • 1/4t. organic powdered ginger
  • mineral water
  • 4 drops liquid stevia, or to taste
