Self Heal; Prunella Vulgaris is a low growing, mat-forming herb found flourishing in lawns, roadsides, and meadows throughout the world.
Its name speaks for itself. For, it is employed to heal thy self, both, within and without. Self Heal has been utilized for centuries as a universal medicinal herb, hence, its other names "heal-all" and "heart-of-the-earth".
Self Heal may be gathered and used as a poultice for cuts, scrapes, bruises, sprains, burns, and to assist in the cessation of bleeding (internally and externally).
Some other benefits of Self Heal may include, but are not limited to, bowel problems, high blood pressure, fever, heart and liver support, PMS, antibacterial properties, inflammation, anti carcinogenic activity, possible viral inhibitor, throat health, conjunctivitis, depression, and skin problems.
The leaves of Self Heal may be consumed raw in salads or added to soups and sautes. Bruised leaves added to a pitcher of water impart a wonderfully sweet flavor.
The flowering tops and leaves may be used for skin poultices, medicinal infusions, eye washes, and decoctions. Self Heal may also be dried for later use.
Please consult a reference guide before gathering wild herbs. And, as always, harvest consciously and in areas free of harmful pollutants and pesticides.
Happy Harvesting!!
